And it happened that, while he was at table with them, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that, their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
(Luke 24:30-31)

Open our eyes, Lord, that we might recognize you. Where have I seen you these last three days? At the Easter Vigil, of course, when, once again, the Priest offered the bread in your name and your resurrected Body re-entered the Host. But you have been present in other ways, too.

You were there in those who welcomed me to their home and to their parish. You were in my fellow worshippers, in the children who gladdened my heart, the family that surrounded me, the grace we offered and the food we shared. You were in the songs we sang, the laughter we enjoyed, the hugs and handshakes we offered one another.

You were there in the setbacks and difficulties, in the fall of our elderly friend, in our concerns for one another.

Please help me to see you on my own road to Emmaus. Let my heart burn when you open the Scriptures to me. Thy will be done.
