“Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
(Luke 9:44)

My Jesus, the disciples did not understand what you were telling them, but they did remember it. It seems incomprehensible, indeed, that you who became man in order to make us one with you would be tortured and killed by those you came to save. How can I continue to sin, knowing that it is my sin that crucifies you, that if I were the only sinner you would have died just for me? How can I forget you, even for an instant? Please help me to pay attention.

How can I acknowledge you today? As I prepare to attend Mass, let me meditate on the gift of yourself that I will receive. As I dress and collect what I will take, I can sing, “Keep in mind that Jesus Christ has died for us, and is risen from the dead. He is our saving Lord; he is joy for all ages.”
